ON THE ONGOING U.S. AND PHILIPPINE ELECTIONS

I didn’t really think of writing on it again, but I just found out a week late that Ron Paul has officially dropped from the 2008 US race. It shouldn’t be a surprise, but still, too bad.

I saw his talk at the Future of Freedom Foundation, given last June 6, and it continues to strike me how straightforward he has remained. No compromise whatsoever, with regard for people’s votes secondary to explaining his positions faithfully. His demeanor is unassuming, with no attempt at grandiosity, yet his manner of speaking is sharp, and his conviction shines forth.

KEEPING THE PEN IN CHECK

I was about to sleep when I saw this article, that the Senate has passed a bill requiring publications to publish the letter of anyone who had been previously maligned in some way in the pages of the publication. I hate how Miriam has twisted the idea of 'press freedom,' actually suggesting that such a 'right to reply' would further promote the exchange of ideas and fairness in reporting.

It is of no use to us to consider what a lousy, shallow, bitchy and puerile person the author of the bill is.
